what time period does the art have to be from or does it just have to exist in the art portal?
It can be from any period, as long as it was submitted to the Art Portal and isn’t rated A. Your entry has to be created within the period of the contest, though.
Maybe I'll partecipate too, but I'm still not 100% sure
I hope I will remember to participate, I should have some time in April between the semesters.
Not sure if I'll be able to join in on the fun this year or not, however I do agree that a ranked voting system for the Fan Favourite category would likely be the best way to go. Single-point weighting is much more likely to end in a tie, which would ultimately mean that you or one of the judges would have to cast the deciding vote, and that basically defeats the purpose.
Anyhow, whether I'm able to participate or not, I hope that all goes well for the 2021 Art-Inspired Music Contest! Good luck and godspeed, one and all.

You’ll be able to submit up to 2, same as last year.
Does it have to be art that's submitted the day the contest begins or can we use old art as inspiration for the contest?
It can be from any time as long as it satisfies the other rules! So yeah, doesn’t have to be art that is submitted after the contest starts. Only your piece has to be created within that period.

You don’t have to play an instrument to participate. You can learn a DAW - there’s plenty of programs out there (some you can download for free) that you can check out and experiment with.

In the past, no, but the part of the essence of the compo is to highlight works of art created by other artists in the Art Portal. It is still allowed (provided the art is from the Newgrounds art portal and satisfies all other requirements), but discouraged.
